The second match of the week was a much closer contest against Cornerstone University. Cornerstone came into the match with a 17-1 record so far this season. The Cards were unfortunately without star senior Danielle Guss for this match, but they fought hard and made this game the most exciting game of the year so far. The game took all five sets to decide, in the end it was Cornerstone on top with a 3-2 victory.
Concordia struck first in this match, winning the first set 25-19. Cornerstone came back strong winning the next two sets 25-22 and 25-20, sending the match into a fourth set. The Lady Cards would win the most exciting set of the match 27-25. At one point in the fourth set the Cards were down by 7 points but they were able to come back with vengeance tying the match at 2 sets apiece. In the fifth and final set, it would be Cornerstone closing the match out with a 15-8 win. Shannon Pietruszka and Ali Miller kept the Cards alive with 22 and 20 digs respectively. Despite the loss, the Cards can take many positive notes from these matches as they head into their next match at the #11 Indiana Institute of Technology. The game is set to be played on October 12th at 7:00pm. Good luck ladies!
