(Ann Arbor, MI) - The Concordia Volleyball Team headed to Chicago this past weekend to play in the Concordia Invitational Volleyball Tournament and they brought the trophy home! They played against Concordia Illinois and Concordia Wisconsin, beating both teams to earn the title of 2011 CIVT Champs.
The Lady Cards kicked off the tournament with a match against Concordia Chicago. The first set was a close one, but Chicago got the best of the Cards, winning 25-23. The second set was close as well, but this time it was our Lady Cards winning 29-27. They went on to take the next two sets 25-7 and 25-21 to win the match 3 sets to 1. Ashley Hart was great on offense with 17 kills and 27 points. Sophomore Adrienne Kanitz led the team with 32 assists. Danielle Guss helped on offense and defense with 16 digs and 17.5 points. The Lady Cards looked to keep this momentum going into their next match against Concordia Wisconsin.
The final match of the tournament was a good one, taking 5 sets to decide. The teams traded victories for the first four sets, but in the end it was your Lady Cards that came out on top, winning the final set 15-8. Ashley Hart had 24 kills for 27.5 points, leading the Cardinal attack. Junior Shannon Pietruszka was solid defensively with 20 digs. Adrienne Kanitz had 51 assists and 3.5 points for the Cards and with this win, the Lady Cards secured their place as CIVT Champs, good work ladies!

The Cardinals will next travel to Defiance College on September 9th to play in another tournament. Keep up the good work!
