(Sylvania, OH) – Concordia women's lacrosse traveled to Lourdes for a WHAC conference game on Wednesday afternoon. The Cardinals came in 8-3 overall and 3-2 in the WHAC while Lourdes entered with a 6-7 overall record and a 3-1 mark in the WHAC. CUAA weathered several runs by Lourdes and came away with a 12-8 win.
Taylor Nesbitt (FR/Chicago, IL) led the offense with 5 goals in the game. Abbey Turner (JR/Grand Ledge, MI) and Greyson Papp (SO/South Bend, IN) each recorded a hat trick while Papp also led the team with 5 ground balls and 4 draw controls. Amanda Archer (SO/Brighton, MI) notched 8 saves in the win.
Greyson Papp won the opening faceoff and scored just 15 seconds into the game. Taylor Nesbitt rang an early shot off the post and scored several minutes later off an assist from Papp. Nesbitt scored a power play goal and Greyson Papp added another goal at the 16:41 mark to give CUAA a 4-0 lead.
A free position goal from Abbey Turner extended the Concordia lead, but Lourdes broke the shutout with a goal just under a minute later. The Grey Wolves added two more goals to cut the Cardinals' lead to 5-3, and both teams' offenses went quiet towards the end of the 1st half. Taylor Nesbitt scored a free position goal to finish her hat trick with 23 seconds remaining and CUAA led 6-3 at halftime.
Lourdes scored the first two goals of the 2nd half to lower the Concordia lead to 6-5. Abbey Turner answered with a free position goal on the powerplay. Both teams traded goals as Greyson Papp completed her hat trick to keep the Cardinals on top.
Taylor Nesbitt notched her 4th goal of the game at the 15:36 mark, but two more goals from Lourdes limited the Concordia lead to 9-8. Abbey Turner answered by scoring a free position goal to notch a hat trick, and Taylor Nesbitt found the back of the net for the 5th time at the 6:55 mark. A free position goal by Kayla Owsley (SR/Dexter, MI) put the Cardinals up by 4 goals.
The Cardinals improve to 9-3 overall and 4-2 in the WHAC with the win. The team will return home on Saturday, April 13 when they host Madonna for Senior Day. The game is set to begin at 12pm with senior recogntion scheduled to take place immediately before the game.
