(Waynesburg, PA) – Concordia women's lacrosse traveled across the country on Saturday afternoon, making a day trip to Pennsylvania to face off against Waynesburg. The Cardinals came in 4-1 overall, fresh off receiving the first NAIA Coaches Poll ranking in school history at #9, while Waynesburg entered 0-3. CUAA was able to pick up their second shutout of the season, setting a new school record for goals in a game with a 23-0 win.
Cassandra Allard (FR/Oak Creek, WI) continued her standout freshman campaign with a team-leading 8 goals. Abbey Turner (JR/Grand Ledge, MI) and Madalyn Fields (FR/Waterford, MI) each notched 4 goals apiece. Greyson Papp (SO/South Bend, IN) had a hat trick along with a team-leading 11 draw controls. Kourtney Kraftchick (SO/Bedford, MI) also scored 3 goals in the match. Amanda Archer (SO/Brighton, MI) picked up her second shutout of the year, not even facing a single shot thanks to a solid CUAA defense.
Cassandra Allard got CUAA on the board with an early goal just under 2 minutes into the game. Kourtney Kraftchick recorded a free position goal, and Allard finished her hat trick by finding the back of the net two more times. Greyson Papp, Kraftchick, and Madalyn Fields all recorded goals to put CUAA up 7-0 at the 22:08 mark.
Concordia continued their offensive onslaught as they consistently kept possession in Waynesburg's zone. Madalyn Fields finished off her hat trick and both Taylor Nesbitt (FR/Chicago, IL) and Abbey Turner recorded their first goal of the game. Greyson Papp completed her hat trick at the 4:44 mark, and Cassandra Allard scored 2 more times to finish with 7 total goals in the first half. CUAA held a 17-0 lead at halftime.
Madalyn Fields scored the first goal of the second half as the Cardinals picked up right where they left off. Kourtney Kraftchick finished her hat trick with a goal at the 27:40 mark, and Abbey Turner had 3 of the next 4 CUAA goals to secure her hat trick. The Cardinals completed their shutout as time expired and claimed the 23-0 win.
Concordia improves to 5-1 overall with the win. The Cardinals will play their next game at home on Saturday, March 23 against Bethel. The game is set to begin at 1pm.
