(Ann Arbor, Mich.) The Concordia University Women's Lacrosse team has announced the signing of Jamie Rand from Bedford, Michigan.
Rand is a midfielder for the Bedford High School girls' lacrosse team. Rand has been a varsity player all four years of high school and also practiced with the team while she was in 8th grade.
Coach Amanda Asher is looking forward to the addition of Rand, stating: "I can't wait to add Jamie to our program next season. Jamie is someone that I have watched play for a few years now, and she is a very smart and composed midfielder who uses her speed as an asset. Jamie is a team player and has the ability to see the field and set up her teammates in the offensive end, as well as get to goal. We are really going to benefit from adding such a well-rounded player and great person to our program."
Mike Keener, Jamie's Varsity High School Coach added, "I have coached Jamie Rand for five years at Bedford High school, in Bedford Michigan, under the Girls lacrosse program. I can honestly state that Jamie Rand is "One in a million!" As a High school coach, I place Jamie Rand, in a very small group of girls, who have become the bench mark, for the example of student athletes, our program strives to develop. The truth of the matter is, it is very apparent to me that she is an excellent example of a great student athlete, with a GPA of 3.94, who is committed to academics, as well as to growing, in her pursuit of excellence, on the lacrosse field. While meeting the demands of being an excellent student athlete, Jamie has constantly kept Her poise and showed vast amounts of maturity, which has given her the ability to lead on the lacrosse field. Jamie has a fire, within her that I have never seen before, I personally believe that Jamie developed the foundations of success, early on. I consider it a great honor to have been Jamie Rand's High school coach, and a "continued witness" to her success in life. Concordia University will enrich their student body with the presence of this awesome young woman! In addition the Lacrosse program has truly found a "Diamond," that will shine bright, on the field!"
Jamie's parents, Frank and Jennifer Rand added "We are excited that Jamie has found a school where she feels at home away from home, where she can pursue her academic career in the health science field, enabling her to follow her dreams of caring for babies in the future. Concordia is the small college she was looking for with the advanced technological classrooms. Then when we met Coach Asher and discovered her coaching philosophy and genuine care for her team, we knew Jamie would be challenged academically and enjoy playing lacrosse throughout her career at Concordia."
Rand added "I have always had a love for healthcare since I was very young, and after seeing the Nursing program at Concordia University my decision was practically made for me. This school has so much to offer, including incredible athletic teams. I was introduced to the lacrosse team through a few of my high school teammates, and again after my overnight visit I was hooked. The team really welcomed me in, and helped me have the best time while on campus. As well as the team, Coach Asher has really wowed my parents and I with her kindness and professionalism. She looks for players that are kind, caring, smart, etc. Not just talented players, but players with great character. I am so excited for my next four years at Concordia University, Go Cards!"
