Baseball sweeps Grace Christian at home

(Ann Arbor, MI) Concordia Baseball welcomed Grace Christian to town Wednesday afternoon for a non-conference doubleheader. CUAA continued their winning ways, as they came back to win 5-2 in game one before a big 14-0 win in game two.

Game 1: Concordia 5 - Grace Christian 2

Kyle Winslow started game one on the mound for the Cardinals. He went a strong four innings pitched only allowing two earned runs. Ryan VanSlambrouck came on for the final three innings, giving CUAA exactly what they needed to get the win with three shutout innings.

Grace Christian got things started in the second inning, with what would be their only runs of the day, as they were able to put up a two-spot. CUAA responded in the bottom of the fourth inning when Alex Piotrowski drove in Logan Hylek to bring the deficit to one. They then tacked on another run in the fifth inning when Jake Kuhlman hit a double to score Tyler Lawson.

The sixth inning saw the Cardinals take their first lead of the day. Matthew Dubrick came in to pinch hit with the bases loaded and two outs, and was hit by a pitch to put CUAA up 3-2. Justin Kozlowski followed that up with a single to score both Harrison Ryan and Clayton McKinstry. The 5-2 lead was enough for VanSlambrouck to close the door and give them the win.

Game 2: Concordia 14 - Grace Christian 0

Ethan Pollard went the first three innings of the game on the bump, allowing zero runs on zero hits. Dylan Kints went the final four innings, only allowing two hits and not giving up a run. The four shutout innings would give Kints his first win of the season!

In the first inning Justin Kozlowski scored on a passed ball to go up 1-0. Back to back doubles from Alex Piotrowski and Gus Simon brought home Hebner, Josh Burke, and Alex Piotrowski to make the score 4-0 after the first. Jake Kuhlman hit a single to score Kozlowski to start the second inning. A two run home run from Josh Burke and an error from the Tigers' shortstop put the Cardinals up 8-0.

In the third inning, Josh Burke doubled to score Darren Pagel. Kolton Horn followed that up with a single to score Burke. Harrison Ryan hit home Alex Czyzewski to open up the fifth inning scoring. Garrett Williams came through with a bases loaded walk to bring in another run. Ty Schornak singled to score Logan Hylek and Clayton McKinstry to put the score at 14-0. This was enough for the win in seven innings and a sweep on the day for CUAA!

The Cardinals are back in action on Saturday as they head to Rochester to take on the RCU Warriors beginning at 1pm!
