(Defiance, OH) Concordia Baseball looked to get back in the win column on Sunday afternoon as the headed to Defiance to take on the Yellow Jackets. CUAA would do just that as they won 3-2 in game one before a big 12-3 win in game two.
Game 1: Concordia 3 - Defiance 2
Drew Murphy started game one on the mound and went three innings allowing zero earned runs. Ryan Vanslambrouck came on and pitched 1.2 innings, allowing two earned runs while striking out one. Blake Weaver got the win as he went the final 2.1 innings without allowing a run.
Concordia got things started quickly as Jake Kuhlman hit an RBI single to score Justin Kozlowski. They scored again in the third inning when Tyler Wressel hit a triple down the right field line to score pinch runner Alex Czyzewski. Defiance responded in the bottom of the fifth inning as an RBI walk and RBI single knotted things at two. It was the top of the sixth inning when pinch runner Clayton McKinstry forced a balk to put the Cardinals up 3-2. That was all Blake Weaver needed as he shut Defiance down in the sixth and seventh innings to put CUAA back in the win column!
Game 2: Concordia 12 - Defiance 3
Evan Jasiak started on the mound for the Cardinals in game two. He would only give up three runs through his 3.2 innings pitched while striking out four. Landen Harris, Logan Morris, and Kylw Winslow would combine for the final 5.1 innings without allowing a run.
The first three innings of the game were scoreless for both teams. In the fourth inning Kyle Hebner broke the tie with a two-run double to score Gus Simon and Clayton McKinstry. Justin Kozlowski followed that up with an RBI single to score Tyler Lawson. Defiance would respond with three runs of their own in the bottom half of the inning to knot the game up at three a piece.
CUAA quickly responded when Tyler Wressel singled to score Josh Burke. Gus Simon later brought Wressel home on a fielder's choice. In the eighth inning Alex Czyzewski singled to score Simon. A single from Justin Kozlowski caused chaos from the Defiance defense as he would score himself, Tyler Lawson, and Logan Hylek. In the ninth inning Burke would score on a throwing error from the pitcher. The Cardinals would wrap up their scoring when Tyler Lawson hit a two RBI single to score Alex Piotrowski and Gus Simon.
The Cardinals are back in action on Wednesday at home as they welcome Grace Christian to Ann Arbor for a non conference doubleheader!
