(Ann Arbor, MI) – Concordia's Women's Lacrosse program was established in 2017 and led from day one by the Class of 2020. Jessica Russ (SR/Madison, AL) and Abbey Turner (SR/Grand Ledge, MI) have helped build a program that has been nationally ranked in the top 10 in the NAIA several times during the program's first four years. After the first two seasons, they have helped lead the Cardinals to a 16-6 record over the last two seasons.
Jessica Russ has attended Concordia for all 4 years of her collegiate career. She hails from Madison, Alabama, and is a Musical Education major. Jess says that the team's best quality is "their passion for the game and each other." Her favorite memory was having her mom being able to see her play for the first time in college against Point Park in Georgia earlier this year. Jess has enjoyed the family atmosphere that the program has developed over her time at Concordia.
Jess started in 41 of the 47 games in her career. She shot 33 out of 39 shots on goal (85%). She is 12th all-time in goals scored (10), 13th all-time in points (10), 5th all-time in ground balls (58), and 4th all-time in caused turnovers (33).
Abbey Turner has attended Concordia for all 4 years of her collegiate career. She hails from Grand Ledge, Michigan, and is a Radiology Technology major. Abbey says that the team's best quality is that they "become stronger through adversity." Her favorite memory was scoring the first goal in program history and defeating Cleary in the program's opening game. Abbey has also enjoyed the familial bonds that she has created with her coaches and teammates during her time at Concordia.
Abbey started in 49 out of the 50 games in her career. She is the all-time leader in the following categories: goals scored (86), points (97), ground balls (92). She is 4th all-time in assists (11), 2nd all-time in caused turnovers (35), and 2nd all-time in draw controls (63). She also shot 165 out of 208 shots on goal (79%). She was also named 1st Team All-Conference in the WHAC (2019), WHAC All-Conference Scholar Athlete (2019), and WHAC Player of the Week (2019).
From all us at Concordia, we thank you for all the time you both have sacrificed during your time at Concordia. Congratulations on this tremendous accomplishment and best wishes to you both!
