(Ann Arbor, MI) – Concordia women's lacrosse hosted Trine University on Saturday afternoon as they continued the 2020 season. The Cardinals entered with a 3-1 record overall while Trine came into the match 0-4. CUAA controlled the pace of play early in the game and emerged with a 15-5 victory.
Cassandra Allard (SO/Oak Creek, WI) led the Cardinals with 4 goals in the game. Mariana Miller (FR/Costa Mesa, CA) notched 3 goals in the match. Jennifer Miller (SO/South Lyon, MI) had a team-high 6 ground balls and 7 draw controls, also tying Taylor Nesbitt (SO/Chicago, IL) with 2 goals apiece. Jessica Russ (SR/Madison, AL) led the team with 5 caused turnovers. Amanda Archer (SO/Brighton, MI) had a solid day in net with 10 saves.
Mariana Miller scored the first goal of the game just under 8 minutes into the contest. Cassandra Allard and Taylor Nesbitt tacked on free position markers to extend the Concordia lead. Mariana Miller spun in front of the net and scored to give CUAA a 4-0 lead at the 14:07 mark.
Trine broke the shutout with a free position goal, but Cassandra Allard answered with a shorthanded tally with 9:36 remaining. Mariana Miller completed her hat trick with a low snipe while her team was shorthanded.
Abbey Turner (SR/Grand Ledge, MI) used a strong individual effort to spin away from several defenders and score with 4 minutes left. A free position goal by Taylor Nesbitt with 5 seconds remaining gave Concordia an 8-1 lead at halftime.
The Cardinals continued to convert while shorthanded as Cassandra Allard finished her hat trick just over 2 minutes into the 2nd half. Jennifer Miller and Allard added goals about a minute apart to put the Cardinals ahead 11-2 with 25:13 left to play.
Alyssa Lundy (FR/Osceola, IN) built on Concordia's lead with a goal off a feed from Madisyn Fox (FR/Osceola, IN). Both teams traded markers down the stretch with Greyson Papp (JR/South Bend, IN) and Cierra Steiner (JR/Canton, MI) finding the back of the net for the Cardinals. Jennifer Miller completed scoring in the game with a powerplay goal in the last minute and CUAA secured the 15-5 victory.
Concordia improves to 4-1 overall with the win. The Cardinals will remain at home on Monday, March 9 when they host Saint Ambrose. The game is set to begin at 4pm following the conclusion of the men's lacrosse contest.
