(Ann Arbor, MI) The Concordia University Women's Lacrosse team has announced the signing of Rachel Costello from Plymouth Christian Academy in Canton, MI.
Costello has been a mainstay in net as a goalie for the Triumph Lacrosse club program for the past five summers.
Coach Amanda Asher is looking forward to the addition of Costello, stating: "We are thrilled to add Rachel to our team next year. Rachel is a talented goalie who caught our attention on the club lacrosse circuit years ago. Rachel has great reaction time, is technically sound, and stays composed in net. She also has great accuracy and ability to clear the ball out of the defensive zone. We have gotten to know Rachel very well as she has attended our prospect camps the past few summers and she is a tremendous person in addition to her talent on the lacrosse field. Rachel will be an outstanding addition to our program!"
The Director and Head Coach of Triumph Lacrosse, Chris Merucci, added, "I've had the pleasure of coaching Rachel for 5 plus years now. It's been interesting and entertaining - that's for sure! Rachel is a great kid with a fun personality and good sense of humor. She's truly a unique person and has a gift of never taking herself too seriously or stressing out about the little things. Rachel's demeanor and positive attitude serves as a calming influence on her teammates and helps keep the team culture strong. Rachel is also very strong in her faith, loves her family, friends and teammates dearly and is much loved by all those who are blessed to be part of her life. Of course, Rachel is a hardworking 3 sport student-athlete and fantastic lacrosse goalie. She is an excellent goalkeeper with a record setting save percentage and goals against numbers over the 5 plus years she's played for me. I'm excited for Rachel and her family as she enters this exciting next chapter with Coach Asher at Concordia University!"
Rachel's parents, Mike and Gail Costello are excited for their daughter to join Concordia, stating "We are thrilled for Rachel to have this opportunity to attend Concordia and play for such a positive coach like Coach Asher. She has wanted to play collegiate lacrosse since back in middle school. Once she took a tour of the campus, she knew Concordia was a perfect fit. As lacrosse fans, we are excited to watch Rachel play at this level and contribute to a future WHAC Championship."
Costello stated, "I am extremely excited to play lacrosse at Concordia. I knew I wanted to play in college and Concordia seemed like a perfect fit academically because of their Athletic Training Program. Coach Asher is a great coach and I'm looking forward to being a part of the Concordia Lacrosse family."
