(Chicago, IL) – Concordia women's lacrosse played under the lights on the road against Illinois Tech on Wednesday evening. The Cardinals came in 2-1 overall, looking to get back in the win column on the young season. CUAA controlled the pace of the game early and cruised to a 21-4 win.
Madisyn Fox (FR/Osceola, IN) and Mariana Miller (FR/Costa Mesa, CA) led the Cardinals with 4 goals apiece. Alyssa Lundy (FR/Osceola, IN) added 3 goals in the contest. Greyson Papp (JR/South Bend, IN) led Concordia with 5 ground balls in the match. Amanda Archer (SO/Brighton, MI) was solid in net with 4 saves.
Mariana Miller scored just over a minute into the contest for the first goal of the game. Madisyn Fox found the back of the net about two minutes later and tacked on a free position goal for a 3-0 CUAA lead at the 24:11 mark.
After solid ball movement, Jennifer Miller (SO/South Lyon, MI) fired a quick shot in the goal off a feed from Greyson Papp. Abbey Turner (SR/Grand Ledge, MI) added her name to the scoresheet with a marker and Mariana Miller scored her second goal of the game after a long run. Greyson Papp capitalized on her own forced turnover to give the Cardinals a 7-0 lead with 17:57 to play.
Illinois Tech broke the shutout with 2 straight goals, but Alyssa Lundy forced a turnover and scored to put Concordia up 8-2. Jennifer Miller scored her second of the game on a free position opportunity and Alyssa Lundy used a quick shot to score just 9 seconds later.
Greyson Papp scored off a slick feed from Cassandra Allard (SO/Oak Creek, WI) and Madisyn Fox completed a hat trick in the final minute of the 1st half. CUAA led 12-4 at halftime.
Taylor Nesbitt (SO/Chicago, IL) converted a free position shot to open scoring in the 2nd half. Mariana Miller finished off her hat trick with a wraparound goal, putting the Cardinals up by double digits and beginning a running clock for the rest of the game.
Miller added her 4th of the game with a free position goal and Cassandra Allard converted a free position shot as well. Alyssa Lundy finished her hat trick with a snipe between the legs of the Illinois Tech goaltender, giving CUAA a 17-4 lead.
Madisyn Fox scored her 4th marker of the contest and Taylor Nesbitt added her 2nd as the Cardinals continued to dominate play. With 1:33 remaining in the game, Cierra Steiner (JR/Canton, MI) spun in front of the net and scored her first goal of the season. Nicole Bordo (FR/Harisson Township, MI) notched her first collegiate marker with 15 seconds remaining and Concordia secured a 21-4 victory.
The Cardinals improve to 3-1 overall with the win. The team will return home on Saturday, March 7 when they host Trine University. The game is set to begin at 1pm.
