Men's Lacrosse claims first NAIA playoff win in program history with 12-7 victory over Webber International

(Savannah, GA) - CUAA men's lacrosse faced off against Webber International on Wednesday afternoon in the first round of the NAIA Men's Lacrosse National Championship The Cardinals entered as the #5 seed while the Warriors checked in as the #4 seed. CUAA played with grit and determination, weathering a 4-0 run in the second half to claim a 12-7 victory and extend their run.

Nick Bradford opened scoring just 17 seconds into the contest after picking up the GB off of the first faceoff

 

Andrew Simmons added a goal with an assist by Ross Preston

 

Webber International got on the board with a power play goal, but Simmons later responded with his second marker of the day.  CUAA led 3-1 after the first quarter. 

 

 

Spencer Guppy scored on the power play to open the second quarter with Travis Wright drawing the assist

 

Guppy later notched his second goal and Andrew Simmons completed his hat trick with five seconds remaining Ross Preston drew the assist on both goals and CUAA held a 6-2 advantage at halftime. 

 

Ryan Davis recorded an unassisted goal to start the third quarter Webber International began to tighten the game with four unanswered goals CUAA stayed ahead 7-6 after the third quarter. 

 

The contest was briefly delayed for about 30 minutes due to a lightning strike in the area

 

Once play resumed, Spencer Guppy ended the Warriors' run by completing his hat trick on the man up opportunity

 

Webber International responded with a goal, but Cooper Regimbal countered with his first marker of the day assisted by Andrew Simmons. 

 

Ryan Davis scored his second goal of the day on the power play, showing his skill by batting the ball in midair into the net.  Cooper Regimbal added his second goal on the fast break and Andrew Simmons tallied with an exciting behind-the-back shot. CUAA maintained their lead and secured the 12-7 victory. 

 

The Cardinals will now face #1 seed Keiser University tomorrow, May 8th at 3:00 PM.
