Men's Lacrosse downs Taylor, 15-9, in First Round of WHAC Tournament

(Ann Arbor, MI) - CUAA men's lacrosse hosted Taylor University in the first round of the WHAC tournament on Tuesday afternoon.  The Cardinals entered as the #3 seed while the Trojans came in as the #6 seed.  After trailing in the first quarter, CUAA surged ahead in the second quarter and secured a 15-9 victory.

 

Joseph Loria played a full game in net with 14 saves.  Taylor scored the first two goals of the contest. Ryan Davis got the Cardinals on the board off an assist from Spencer Guppy. Both teams traded markers with Spencer Guppy notching a goal off a Ross Preston assist.  CUAA trailed 4-2 after the first quarter.

 

Taylor scored first in the second quarter, but Ryan Davis recorded his second marker to start a 4-0 run.  Spencer Guppy scored three straight goals to complete his hat trick and give the Cardinals a 6-5 lead.  After Taylor briefly went up 7-6, Ryan Davis began a 4-0 run with an unassisted marker.  Andrew Simmons tallied and Ryan Davis finished his hat trick.  Cooper Regimbal capped the quarter with a goal and CUAA led 10-7 at halftime. 

 

Cooper Regimbal recorded his second goal early in the third quarter.  Spencer Guppy and Travis Wright also scored as the Cardinals blanked the Trojans in the frame.  CUAA held a 13-7 advantage after the third quarter.

 

Taylor scored two goals early in the fourth quarter to tighten the game.  Cooper Regimbal responded by completing his hat trick and Spencer Guppy scored his team-high sixth goal.  The Cardinals held strong and claimed a 15-9 win as time expired.

 

CUAA will now travel to #2 seed Madonna University this Thursday, April 24th, at 3pm.
