(Fort Wayne, IN) – Concordia volleyball traveled to Indiana Tech on Wednesday night for a WHAC conference matchup. CUAA came in looking to claim their first WHAC win of the year while the Warriors entered with a 4-3 conference record. Many Cardinals recorded solid individual performances, but Indiana Tech handed the Cardinals a 3-0 defeat.
Delaney Bennett (JR/Fruitport, MI) and Nadia Rozmarniewicz (SR/Pinckney, MI) tied for the team lead with 6 kills in the game. Lena Thompson (JR/Howard City, MI) led the team with 17 assists while also making 4 kills. Janie Bunge (SR/Ottawa Lake, MI) and Tara Schatzle (SO/Brooklyn, MI) each finished with a team-leading 11 digs in the match.
Set 1 – Indiana Tech 25, CUAA 13
Delaney Bennett recorded a kill off a set from Lena Thompson for the Cardinals' first point of the game. Nadia Rozmarniewicz and Gabrielle den Boer (SO/Canton, MI) notched early kills, but Indiana Tech jumped out to an early 8-4 lead. Denae Tolu (JR/Canton, MI) ended a 5-0 run by the Warriors with a kill, but eventually Indiana Tech pulled away for a double-digit lead. Indiana Tech took the first set 25-13.
Set 2 – Indiana Tech 25, CUAA 14
Nadia Rozmarniewicz gave Concordia a 1-0 lead with a kill assisted by Lena Thompson. Back-to-back kills from Gabrielle den Boer and Lindsey Luff (FR/Flushing, MI) helped the Cardinals keep pace in the early stages. However, a 9-1 run helped the Warriors to pull away once again. Delaney Bennett hammered three kills for CUAA as the set continued, but Indiana Tech won set 2 by a score of 25-14.
Set 3 – Indiana Tech 25, CUAA 15
Concordia jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the third set as Lena Thompson recorded a service ace and made several key sets. The Cardinals' largest lead came after a kill from Nadia Rozmarniewicz made the score 7-3. Indiana Tech battled back to tie the score 9-9, but from that point on the Warriors maintained their lead. Lena Thompson made several more kills in the set, but the Warriors won 25-15 to win the game.
The Cardinals will play their next game on Friday, September 28 when they travel to UM-Dearborn. The game is scheduled to begin at 7pm.
