Cardinals fall in straight sets to Siena Heights

The Concordia Cardinal volleyball team had their opportunities Thursday night against Siena Heights University, but never could string together enough points to surpass the Saints as the fell in straight sets 30-21, 30-20, 30-21 to fall to 4-27 overall and 1-10 in the Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference. Junior Erin Walczak lead the effort with 10 kills and five digs with fellow junior Nicole Williams adding six kills and 12 digs.

(Oct. 19, 2006 - Ann Arbor, Mich.) -- The Concordia volleyball team had several opportunities to win the match against Siena Heights University, but often dug themselves too large of a whole to get out from or didn't string enough points when it mattered most as the team fell 30-21, 30-20, 30-21 to the Saints.
Amanda Christensen dominated the frontcourt as she pounded 15 kills with Jessica Welton and Nicci Smith adding eight apiece for Siena Heights.
For the Cardinals, Erin Walczak (Jr. - Dewitt, Mich.) had 10 kills for the Cardinals with Shawna Dorton (So. - Lincoln Park, Mich.) adding seven and Nicole Williams (Jr. - White Lake, Mich.) contributing six. Williams also had 12 digs, while Ashley Zair (Fr. - West Bloomfield, Mich.) lead the defense with 14 digs of her own. Stephanie Weiss orchestrated the Cardinal offense with 28 assists as well six digs on the defensive end.
With the loss, the Cardinals dropped to 4-27 overall and 1-10 in the Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference. The Cards will step out of conference play on Saturday afternoon as the team will host Rochester College at 1:00 p.m.
