Cardinals put up valiant fight against unbeaten Tech
Head Coach Dan Kirchhoff has had a rough few weeks after losing two players due to eligibility problems and another pair of players to injuries. With a player suspension for tonight's game, the already-depleted Cards had no substitutions at their disposal as they travelled to Indiana Tech - a team that has been perfect thus far this season. The end result was expected, but the scores weren't as Concordia put up a tremendous effort as they fell to the Warriors 30-19, 30-14, 30-23.
(Sept. 14, 2006 -- Ft. Wayne, Indiana) -- The Concordia Cardinals had a good idea that tonight's games at Indiana Tech would be a tough task. Having only enough players to field a squad at their disposal, they were also going up against a squad that was unbeaten and had recently defeated a Top 10 team the week before. But the six that were on the court for Concordia did their best and the scores reflected that as the team fell in three sets, but not without a fight, 30-19, 30-14, 30-23.
Junior Erin Walczak lead the Cardinals with seven kills and eight digs while freshman Ashley Zair added five kills and five digs. Sophomore Erica Manning added a pair of kills and three blocks, while junior Stephanie Weiss had a block and 13 assists. Freshman Rachel Compton lead the team with 10 digs while fellow frosh Brianna Dunt added a trio of digs.
With the loss Concordia drops to 3-14 on the season and 0-2 in the Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference. The Cardinals return to action on Saturday afternoon when they play at Rochester College at 1:00 p.m. Concordia defeated the Warriors on Aug. 26 of this season which gave the Cards its first win of the year.
Indiana Tech improved to 8-0 overall as they won their first conference match and stand at 1-0 in the WHAC.
