The Madonna Crusaders entered Friday evening's game against Concordia ranked #10 nationally having only lost twice on the season. The short-handed and over-matched Cardinals did all they could, but the Crusaders made quick work of Concordia in a straight set victory winning 30-15, 30-11, 30-7.
(Oct. 13, 2006 - Livonia, Mich.) -- When you are short-handed on personnel, there are certain games on the schedule when as a head coach all you can hope for is to improve your game and keep the score as close as possible. Such was the case Friday night as the Concordia University volleyball team travelled to Livonia to play the #10 team in the nation in Madonna. The Crusaders had an easy go of it as they rolled to a straight set victory winning 30-15, 30-11, 30-7 to run their record to 28-2 overall and 9-0 in the Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference.
Concordia had only eight players at its disposal as the Cards fell to 4-23 overall and 1-8 in the WHAC.
The Cards were lead by Erin Walczak (Jr. - Dewitt, Mich.) who had nine digs, three kills and a block on the night. Setter Stephanie Weiss (Jr. - Frankenmuth, Mich.) had 12 assists and one dig while sophomores Shawna Dorton (Lincoln Park, Mich.) and Erica Manning each had four kills. Manning (St. Johns, Mich.) added three digs.
Madonna was lead at the net by Lubovj Tihomirova and Caryn Inman, who combined for 22 kills, two less than the total Concordia put up as a team.
The Cardinals have eight matches remaining on the schedule with their next opponent being another WHAC power in Cornerstone University. Concordia will host the Golden Eagles on Tuesday at 7:00 p.m.
