Baseball sweeps Lourdes in non-conference series

(Ann Arbor, Mich) The Cardinals hosted Lourdes University on Saturday afternoon for a non-conference double header. The Cardinals swept the Gray Wolves improving their overall mark to 24-13. The Cardinals won game one 6-2 and completed the sweep in game two 10-6.

The Cardinals started slowly but found their rhythm throughout the game. Blaine Milheim (SR/Eaton Rapids, MI) scored the game's first run in the third inning off a Preston Sherman (JR/Homer, MI) single in the third inning. The Gray Wolves evened the game in the fourth inning with a run of their own.

The Cardinals started to pull away in the fifth inning highlighted by a three-run home run to extend the Cardinals lead 5-1.

Each team added runs in the sixth inning with the Cardinals holding on for the 6-2 victory.

The Cardinals were efficient scoring six runs on seven hits. Preston Sherman and Max Hecht paced the Cardinals attack with two hits each. Sherman recorded two RBIs in addition to Hecht's three.

Grant Steinborn (JR/Flushing, MI) was effective on the mound going six innings and only allowing one run on two hits.

In game two the Cardinals jumped on the Gray Wolves early scoring seven runs in the first two innings. The Cardinals recorded eight hits in the first two innings and also took advantage of a Gray Wolves error. Preston Sherman highlighted the Cardinals second inning with a 2-run double to score Vann Acker (JR/Eaton Rapids, MI) and Johnny Shields (FR/Howell, MI).

The Gray Wolves scored four runs in the fourth inning to trim the Cardinals lead 7-5. The Cardinals responded with a run in the bottom of the fourth by Milheim. The senior standout stole second and their base on his way to home plate after a fielder's choice.

The Cardinals added two runs in the sixth inning and eventually pulled out the win 10-6.

Milheim extended his hit streak and led the Cardianls with three hits and two RBIs. Vann Acker also recorded three hits in the lead-off spot.while crossing home plate three times as well.

Jimmy McKane (JR/Saint Johns, MI) picked up the win for the Cardinals after four innings of work with Jacob Henry (FR/Bloomfield Hills, MI) earning the save in relief.
