(Ann Arbor, MI) - CUAA softball hosted Rochester Christian on Saturday afternoon as the program celebrated Senior Day. Prior to the games, the team honored their alumni as well as current sophomore and junior team members. The Cardinals also recognized their 14 seniors in between games. CUAA featured a strong offense, cruising to an 11-3 win in game one and 12-3 victory in game two.
GAME ONE: CUAA 11, RCU 3 – six innings
Paige Anderson started on the mound, making three strikeouts in five innings. Rochester Christian took a 3-0 lead on a home run by Amber Lamphier in the first inning.
The Cardinals countered in the second inning with a solo home run by Faith Cramton and a game-tying 2-run home from Elyse Brittain. In the third inning, Katie Tobias hit a sacrifice fly to score Payton Lewis. Maddy Greuter notched a 2-RBI double and scored on a single from Bella Lee.
In the fourth inning, Katie Tobias crushed a 3-run homer to extend the lead. Kendall Kahl pitched the sixth inning, making one strikeout.
In the bottom of the sixth, Faith Cramton used an RBI double to drive in Megan Martin and secured the 11-3 mercy rule win.
GAME TWO: CUAA 12, RCU 3 – five innings
Elyse Brittain started game two on the mound, recording four strikeouts in two innings. Katie Tobias opened scoring in the first inning with a 2-run homer. Maddy Greuter then stole home for an early 3-0 lead.
The Cardinals continued to hit with power on a 3-run homer by Katie Tobias and a solo shot by Faith Cramton. Hannah Duchene pitched the third and fourth innings, making two strikeouts.
Rochester Christian broke a shutout with one run in the fourth inning. In the bottom half, Maddy Greuter hit a 2-RBI single. Hannah Duchene used a sacrifice bunt to score Faith Cramton. Maddy Greuter reached home after a throwing error and Lauryn Rhodea capped the inning with a deep single to drive in Kaleigh McClelland.
Emma Thompson pitched the fifth inning for the Cardinals. The team held strong and earned a 12-3 mercy rule win in game two.
CUAA will travel to Madonna University tomorrow, April 13th, for a double header starting at 1pm.
