CoSIDA selects Cox for All-America 1st Team

(Austin, TX) Concordia football's Hunter Cox (SR/Laurel, MD) has been named to the prestigious Academic All-America 1st Team by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA). The senior was made eligible for the award after his All-District Team selection earlier this month. Cox is the second Cardinal named to an All-America team this year joining Rachel Hay (SR/Women's Soccer) and third since CUAA joined CoSIDA last year.

Cox wrapped up a four-year, 42 game career as one of the top defensive players in Concordia's history. He finished with the 4th highest total tackles (214), 3rd most sacks (12.5), and 5th in tackles for a loss (23.0). Cox served as a team captain in 2016 racking up 40 tackles in his final season on a unit that was 10th in the NAIA in rushing defense per game (120.9 yards) and 11th in opponent 3rd down conversion (30.9%). The defensive end was named an All-Conference honorable mention in the Mideast League in 2015. Off the field, Cox has maintained a 3.95 cumulative GPA (4.0 scale) majoring in mathematics.

Cox is one of 24 student-athletes on the College Division Football All-America team. Other MSFA Mideast League players on the team include: Hans Lundberg (TE/Taylor), Zachary Minardo (OL/St. Francis IN), Ryan Nix (K/St. Francis IN), Lucas Sparks (DL/St. Francis IN), and Brandon Haan (P/Taylor).

The CoSIDA Academic All-America teams recognize the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances athletically and in the classroom. CoSIDA honors student athletes from the NAIA as well as NCAA Divison I, II, III who have earned at least a 3.3 GPA in the classroom and are of a sophomore status academically.
