(Fort Wayne, IN) The Concordia University Football team faced their third consecutive top 25 ranked team today. CUAA upset the fifth ranked Saint Xavier Cougars last week 35-14. Saint Francis entered today with a 6-0 overall record.
Saint Francis struck first in the opening quarter on their third drive of the game. After three broken plays, USF converted a 35-yard field goal to take an early lead.
Concordia would answer right back with a score of their own. After an 18-yard pass to from Seth Suida (SO/Livonia, MI) to Kevin Brown-Bayko (SO/Garden City, MI), Suida took to the ground for 59 yards and a touchdown. Brayden Bennett (JR/Battle Creek, MI) added the extra point for a 7-3 Concordia lead.
That would be the only CUAA score of the day, and the Cougars of Saint Francis would sit in the driver seat for the remainder of the game with 45 unanswered points on route to a 48-7 victory.
The Cardinals were forced to punt eight times, and mustered only two drives over thirty yards. CUAA managed to gather 315 yards on the day with 170 through the air and 145 on the ground.
Seth Suida completed 7 passes on 12 attempts for 118 yards. Suida also ran for 58 yards and 1 score. Brown-Bayko collected 6 catches for 115 yards on the day.
Andrew O'Hara (FR/Cleveland, OH) tallied 13 total tackles for the defense. Matthew Sears (SO/Ortonville, MI) and Nick Holshoe (JR/Hopkins, MI) both made 8 tackles for the Cards while Holshoe added one tackle for a loss. Hunter Cox (JR/Laurel, MD) earned 3 tackles for the game and 1 sack.
CUAA will bounce back on the road against Taylor University in an MSFA contest. The Trojans are now 4-3 after beating Siena Heights this week 63-21. The game, played at Turner Stadium in Upland, IN, will begin at 1:00.
