Men's Track & Field rounds out the season at the WHAC and NCCAA Championships

WHAC RECAP

(Adrian, MI) - The men's track and field teams competed at their final WHAC Championships on Thursday, May 1, and Friday, May 2, at Siena Heights. The men's team earned a 10th-place finish overall. At the same time, they came away with five personal records, three season-best efforts, and one new collegiate debut.

The sprinters and mid-distance athletes finally found some favorable conditions to run fast times. Jackson Miles (Senior; Brighton, MI) ran to a new personal record time in the 200 at 23.60 seconds. Hayden Prone (Sophomore; Fort Gratiot, MI ) and Zak Schroeder (Junior; Napoleon, OH) competed in the 200 and 400-meter dash. Prone ran to a new personal record in the 400 time of 58.46 and finished the 200 in 25.27 seconds. Schroeder ran to a new season-best effort time of 53.63 seconds and 26.35 in the 200 dash.

Dominic Catallo (Sophomore; Westland, MI) ran to a new personal record time of 2:05.03 in the 800-meter run.

Eric Breidert (Freshman; Wenatchee, WA) competed in the 1500, finishing at 5:00.10 and a new personal record.

In throwing events, Reynolds finished in 10 place in the Hammer Throw with a distance of 47.05 meters, a new personal best effort. Jesse Leitzow (Sophomore; St.Clair Shores, MI) finished in 21 place with a throw of 39.02 meters. Leitzow also competed in Shot Put with a throw of 12.88 meters for 17 place. Scott Smith (Senior; Saginaw, MI) competed in shot put and finished in 18 place with a throw of 11.96 meters.

Smith led the way in Javelin with a throw of 47.29 meters and finished in 10 place. Dawson Kolka (Freshman; Sanford, MI) also competed in Javelin and finished in 28 place with a throw of 25.21 meters.

Kolka also competed in the Discus, where he finished with a throw of 38.11 meters with a 17 place finish.


NCCAA RECAP

(Columbia, SC) - The Men's track and field team finished their time at the NCCAA Championships in Columbia, South Carolina on Thursday, May 8 and Friday, May 9. The men's team finished in 24 place with five points. The Cardinals finished just a half point behind Regent University and three points ahead of Fort Lauderdale.

The men had a good showing in the hammer throw, as Ryan Reynolds (Junior; Northville, MI) finished in fifth place with a throw of 45.39 meters. Jesse Leitzow (Sophomore; St. Clair Shores, MI) finished in 13 place with a personal record throw of 40.89 meters. Dawson Kolka (Freshman; Sanford, MI) also competed in the hammer and finished in 23rd with a throw of 36.19 meters.

Kolka and Reynolds also competed in the discus throw. Kolka finished in 19th place with a distance of 36.38 meters, followed by Reynolds in 21st place with a throw of 34.97 meters. Leitzow competed in the shot put and finished in eighth place with a throw of 13.49 meters, earning the team a point.

Scott Smith (Senior; Saginaw, MI) finished his career with a 12th-place finish in javelin with a throw of 44.92 meters. Smith was also recognized as an NCCAA Scholar Athlete.

Dominic Catallo (Sophomore; Westland, MI) was entered in the 800 and finished with a final time of 2:05.61.

Catallo helped anchor a relay team comprised of Hayden Prone (Sophomore; Fort Gratiot, MI), Zak Schroeder (Junior; Napoleon, OH), and Reynolds to a 16th-place finish and a final time of 3:52.27.

"This program has reached some unbelievable heights over the last few years and has brought some recognition to the amazing university. These athletes have shown immense strength to continue through all this and still achieve all that they have is amazing.  It is disappointing to have this all end, as this team was rising to a place that has not been seen in a long time," said Head Coach Dominic Santina when reflecting on the program coming to an end.

The meet puts an end to the Concordia Track and Field Program.
