Men's Basketball battles with Indiana Tech but drops road contest

(Fort Wayne, IN) - Concordia men's basketball traveled to Indiana Tech on Wednesday night in WHAC play.  The Cardinals pushed the Warriors and held the lead in the first half, but Indiana Tech rallied in the second half for a 91-80 win.  

 

Jack Olis led the team with 25 points.  Ray Washington-Battle came in second with 14 points.  Mason Canfield (13) and Colby Chapman (10) were also in double figures.  Mark DeVries led the team with six rebounds. 

 

 

Ray Washington-Battle opened scoring with a free throw.  Mason Canfield drained two free throws and a 3-pointer for an early 6-3 lead.  Jack Olis began his standout day with the next eleven Cardinal points, including three triples.  Baskets from Ray Washington-Battle and Matt Blanton gave CUAA a 21-20 lead with 9:23 to play. 

 

Luke Brohl and Mason Canfield knocked down 3-pointers as the contest stayed close.  Colby Chapman drained a pair of free throws and Ray Washington-Battle finished off an "and-1".  Jason Jergens hit two triples to give the Cardinals their largest lead with a 38-31 advantage.  Colby Chapman made a late 3-pointer as well, but Indiana Tech rallied and took a narrow 45-43 lead into halftime. 

 

Mark DeVries scored a fast-break layup to start the second half.  Colby Chapman nailed a triple but the Warriors began to rally and rebuild a double-digit lead.  Jack Olis exploded with the next 14 Cardinal points including four triples.  CUAA trailed 74-63 with 8:05 to play. 

 

Jason Jergens made a triple and Ray Washington-Battle scored five more points as the Cardinals hoped to rally.  Mason Canfield hit a fadeaway jumper and a 3-pointer in the final minutes.  However, Indiana Tech claimed a 91-80 win as time expired. 

 

 

CUAA will return home to host the Concordia Invitational Tournament this Friday and Saturday, January 24th and 25th.   The Cardinals face Concordia Wisconsin this Friday at 8pm.
