(September 30, 2008 - Ann Arbor, Mich.) -- Not a lot was going in favor of the Concordia volleyball team heading into Tuesday night's match-up against the Indiana Tech Warriors. The visitors from Ft. Wayne came into Ann Arbor with a perfect 18-0 record, while the Cards had lost seven straight. Tech also had never lost to Concordia, winning all seven meeting since the program was started in 2005. But the Cardinals fought the visitors tooth-and-nail, with Shawna Dorton (Sr. - Lincoln Park, Mich.) leading the charge, before succumbing 3-1.

Dorton lead all players with 17 kills on the night in a superlative performance. Unfortunately, the rest of the Cardinals only mustered an additional 18 kills on the night, while Tech had 48 with Ashley Hamilton having 16 and Ashtyn Humerickhouse 12.

Also critical was the unfortunate timing of several service errors on behalf of the Cardinals. When they needed to put together some momentum or to just stay in the game, a ball would be served into the net ending the emotional swing. All told, Concordia had 11 service errors.

Tech came out on fire in the first game steamrolling the Cards 25-12. But Concordia did something they hadn't done in the last 22 sets against the Warriors as they won the second set 25-20. That's about the time when Dorton caught fire. The hitter had eight kills in the second frame alone.

Hoping to capitalize on the boost they received from a raucous crowd and the knowledge they can play with anyone, that hope fizzled in the third set when Tech pulled away late for a 25-14 victory. Despite several quality points in the third frame, Concordia couldn't get the traction they needed and fell 25-15 to drop the match.

Ashley Zair (Jr. - West Bloomfield, Mich.), starting her first game as the team's setter, had 30 assists for Concordia. Shilo Stewart (Jr. - Brighton, Mich.) replaced Zair as the libero and had 12 digs on the night for the Cards.

Laura Booker had 36 assists for Indiana Tech while Michelle Fitzpatrick lead the Warriors with 12 digs while Hamilton added 11.

Concordia (12-11, 0-4 WHAC) will be looking to end their seven-game skid on Thursday night. Their opponent will be the Davenport Panthers, who have dropped three-in-a-row, falling to 6-15 overall. With a victory, the Cards can ride into a weekend non-conference tournament at Cornerstone with their first WHAC victory.
