(September 25, 2008 - Ann Arbor, Mich.) -- It has been six years since the Concordia volleyball team has won a set against the Golden Eagles of Cornerstone, and it has twice as long since they have been victorious in a match. Unfortunately, that continues as the Cardinals dropped their 26th consecutive match to Cornerstone after the visitors came to Ann Arbor and swept the match 3-0. The loss is the sixth in a row on the season for the Cardinals.

Cornerstone began the match with a quick three points of the serve in set one. Concordia would rally to tie the match behind the serving of Rachel Compton (Jr. - Ann Arbor, Mich.) and the set would stay close until the Golden Eagles would mount a five-point run to stretch a 19-18 lead to game point. The Cards would pick up a pair of points, but would fall 25-20.

The second set had a different tone as Cornerstone would build on early 9-3 lead and would stretch that to a nine-point cushion at 14-5.  While Cornerstone couldn't build upon that lead total, the Cardinals conversely couldn't get much closer than six the rest of the way as the Eagles cruised to a 25-17 victory to put them one set victory away from a sweep.

A resilient Cardinal squad would give it their all in the third set, but unfortunately, the consecutive sets they lost at the hands of Cornerstone increased to 21 and the matches lost moved to 26 as the Eagles won 25-20. Again, it was a late runthat would give Cornerstone the necessary distance as they broke a 14-14 tie with a four-point run. Concordia would get as close as a pair of points, but no closer as Cornerstone headed to the locker room with a three-set sweep.

Holly Cousins and Alicia TerHaar were deadly on the attack as they had 16 and 13 kills, respectively. Shawna Dorton (Sr. - Lincoln Park, Mich.) lead Concordia with eight kills, with Ashley Hart (Sr. - Birmingham, Mich.) and Kara Youngs (Fr.- Belding, Mich.) each added seven.

Compton and Ashley Zair (Jr. - West Bloomfield, Mich.) shared the setter position with Compton finishin with 21 assists and Zair picking up 14 in relief. Zair lead the defense as well with 13 digs, while Youngs added eight.

Concordia will try to stop the slide with a home match on Sept. 30 against Indiana Tech. Game time is 7:00 p.m. The Cardinals will have another home meeting in conference play two days later as they host the Panthers of Davenport, before Concordia heads to Cornerstone for the two-day Golden Eagle Invite the weekend of Oct. 3-4.
